As always, Vincent Price was great. It was amazing to see him play a good and evil guy at the same time. The ending was sad, but expected. I will watch this again some day.

The Devil's Bride (1968)
This was a great movie. It was cool to see Christopher Lee play a good guy. The story was told well and the acting was great. I would definitely watch this again.
Dracula, Prince of Darkness (1966)
This was ok, very similar to the other Hammer Dracula movies. Nothing really made it stand out.

13 Ghosts (1960)
Clip above is the full movie. This was a great William Castle production. It would have been so much fun to have been able to see this when it came out in theaters. It was cheezey, but I liked it a lot.
Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell (1974)
This was a great Hammer movie, but mostly because Peter Cushing was Dr. Frankenstein.

Brain Dead (1990)
This movie would have been a great mind bender for my film class last quarter. It was funny and it kept me guessing as to what the real reality was. The horror/gore elements were so few and far between that they really stood out and added to the film. The ending with all the brains on the shelf was perfect.
The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
I liked this movie a lot. It was really fun trying to figure out what was really going on. About half way through I thought it was going to be the horror fan as the "customer" that they had to keep happy. The ending was a little cheesy with the whole "ancients" thing, but I liked the ending sequences with the monsters all breaking loose and the cameo by Sigourney Weaver.

Jacob's Ladder (1990)
This was a great film. There were many scenes that are really creepy. There was even a moment were I got startled and that doesn't happen very often. A very disturbing movie that was great.

Videodrome (1983)
The special effects were great and very creepy. James Woods was awesome. Surprisingly Debbie Harry was good too. The ending was a little too ambiguous for my taste, but overall I liked the story.
The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2010)
Very disturbing. Dr. Heiter is possibly the scariest villain in any horror movie that I have seen. The whole movie was suspenseful and left me a little queasy, which is a great sign since it rarely happens.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
Great movie, and great acting. Three of my favorite actors: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Alan Rickman are in this movie. I loved the visuals of the film. I really loved the how the blood looked fake and paint-like. I felt like Tim Burton made it look that way as a nod to old Hammer Horror films. I really liked the make up also.

The Devil's Rejects (2005)
LOVE this movie. Even after seeing it at least 10 times it is still awesome. I love the music and the cut away scenes. I also love the interactions between the members of the Firefly family. Even though they are evil, they love each other and stick together.
The Walking Dead (1936)
Thankfully this movie was short because it was boring. Karloff was good, but that was the only good thing about this film.

Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? (1962)
This movie was really creepy. The acting was great and the story was very believable. The ambiguous ending was neat, yet a little frustrating.

Tenebre (1982)
This was a pretty good film. The death scenes were cool and the story was actually good. There weren't many dull moments. I would definitely watch this again. I am quickly a becoming a big fan of Italian Giallo films.

George A. Romero presents Deadtime Stories: Volume 1 (2010)
These shorts were a little humorous, but that was it. The special effects were terrible and the stories were even worse. Each had potential that did not pan out. I will probably never watch this again.
Ed Wood (1994)
This is yet another movie that proves that Johnny Depp can play any character and do a good job doing it! This was funny and sad at the same time. I really appreciated the references to horror and sci-fi films.

The Howling (1981)
The special effects in this film are amazing, but the story was lacking. I was bored by it and had a hard time paying attention. I will have to give it another viewing just to be sure.
The Premature Burial (1962)
This film was great. I love the performance that Ray Milland gives and Hazel Court is great also. The film was fast paced and you could feel the fear that Ray Milland was trying to get across to the audience. Great movie!
The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967)
The story is a little hard to follow. It was shot beautifully though. I will probably not watch this movie again.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)
I loved this movie. The special effects were great and I liked the story even if it was a little ludicrous. The actor who plays Lincoln is perfect and I really enjoyed his vampire sidekick Henry. I will definitely be buying this when it comes out on DVD.
Slashed Dreams (1975)
This movie was so slow and boring. The whole thing is a build up for a rape scene that is not very scary. Robert Englund doesn't even show up until the very end of the movie. The movie is also known as Sunburst. There are scenes that are very tense and create a disturbing atmosphere, but the payoff is very disappointing.

Witchfinder General (1968)
The majority of this film was boring. The only thing that really redeemed it was the torture/death scenes and the fact that Vincent is killed off at the end.

The Tingler (1959)
This was a hilarious movie. It is so silly, but Vincent Price is amazing as usual. This is from Wikipedia explaining the film's prologue:
Much in the manner of Universal's groundbreaking Frankenstein (1931), William Castle opened the film with an on-screen warning to the audience:
- "I am William Castle, the director of the motion picture you are about to see. I feel obligated to warn you that some of the sensations—some of the physical reactions which the actors on the screen will feel—will also be experienced, for the first time in motion picture history, by certain members of this audience. I say 'certain members' because some people are more sensitive to these mysterious electronic impulses than others. These unfortunate, sensitive people will at times feel a strange, tingling sensation; other people will feel it less strongly. But don't be alarmed—you can protect yourself. At any time you are conscious of a tingling sensation, you may obtain immediate relief by screaming. Don't be embarrassed about opening your mouth and letting rip with all you've got, because the person in the seat right next to you will probably be screaming too. And remember—a scream at the right time may save your life."
- I think it would have been fun to see this in the theater when it came out. My favorite part of the movie was in the theater scenes where the lights go out and Vincent breaks the 4th wall in a sense.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931)
This was a great movie. The makeup for the transformations from Jekyll into Hyde was really well done.
Friday, June 22, 2012
Fright Night (2011)
This was a great remake. The comedy from the original movie was there as well as some new special effects. The bare bones of the story were essentially the same, but all of the scenes were different which made the movie interesting.

Fright Night (1985)
The first half of this movie was hilarious. It spoofed so many aspects of the horror genre. The second half of the movie still had the comedy, but at the same time it was way more suspenseful and the makeup and animatronics were awesome.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
I liked this movie a lot. I had to watch it in film class today. It is not a typical horror movie because the majority of the horror is in a war scenario. The monsters are cool though and realistic looking. The story is really good for a war story.

From Hell (2001)
This was a cool movie. Of course Johnny Depp is amazing as always and the special effects were great. The only problem I had with it was the fact that Heather Graham was the leading lady. I just can't take her seriously. The story was a little convoluted at the end, but was interesting enough considering the reality of the Jack The Ripper case.
Cape Fear (1962)
This was a great movie. I had seen the remake with Robert De Niro which is good too. Robert Mitchum was a creepier Max Cady than De Niro.

Corridors of Blood (1958)
This was an okay movie. Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee were really the only good parts about it.

Diaboliques (1955)
The story for this movie is great, but I would say this isn't one of my favorite horror movies. Overall the movie was very slow up until the last 20 minutes.

Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971)
This was an okay movie. It was really short, but that was a good thing.

They Live (1988)
This movie cracked me up. About 98% of the movie is fight scenes and scenes of impoverished people. It is a movie that has a serious message about consumerism and big business taking over, but it is so goofy. The best parts of the movie are when the main character Nada goes into a bank and says, "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum." and when he gives the aliens the finger at the end.

The Phantom of the Opera (1925)
I recently listened to the audio version of The Phantom of the Opera written by Gaston Leroux and watched this film immediately after I finished. It is the most faithful adaptation of the book (even though the ending is different). I liked the movie, but it is too bad that there isn't a clear copy of it. It would be an even better film if it had been preserved.

The Tomb of Ligeia (1964)
Another great performance by Vincent Price! The story is mostly solid until the end when the blond lady comes back alive after the first wife is killed (it is unclear how the first wife being alive influences the blonde's life). Other than that, I enjoyed this movie very much.

The Mummy (1959)
Another Hammer Horror film. Peter Cushing was great, but the rest of the movie was a little dull. It went by pretty fast though.

Donnie Darko (2001)
This movie was insane. I really liked it though. I watched it in film class. The rabbit is freaky. I loved how in the beginning the town is almost directly taken from Halloween. I also liked how the mom was reading Stephen King's IT. The best part by far was the fact that Darko takes his girlfriend to see Evil Dead and that's where the rabbit takes off his mask. There is so much going on in this movie that it is kind of hard to make sense of, but overall the story was good.

Eyes Without a Face (1959)
This film was awesome!!! I only wish it had been longer. It was beautifully filmed and the ending is so breathtaking. I think everyone should be forced to watch this movie. I just loved it.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
I remember seeing this in the theater at least twice when it came out. It was such a big deal. I recently watched this movie again for my film class, and it was just as good as the first time I saw it.

Twice-Told Tales (1963)
There are three mini-movies in this film. All of them are based on stories written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The first mini -movie is Dr. Heidegger's Experiment. It was entertaining. The part where the wife turns into a skeleton made me laugh out loud. The second segment is Rappaccini's Daughter. Out of the three stories, I liked this one the least. It had some cool special effects, but the plot was too "Romeo & Juliet" for me. The last story, House of the Seven Gables, was my favorite. It was the most developed of the three segments.

Tales of Terror (1962)
Based on some of Edgar Allan Poe's stories, the film was split into three different stories with Vincent Price as the main character in each story. This is a Roger Corman film, and it included Basil Rathbone and Peter Lorre in addition to Vincent Price. The best story out of the three was The Black Cat.
Horror Express (1972)
This movie has zombies, aliens, prehistoric killers, spies, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee!!! Kind of boring when it first starts, but eventually picks up.
The Comedy of Terrors (1964)
This movie was pretty funny and entertaining. The ending is ironic. I will definitely watch this movie again.
The Raven (1963)
Sunday, March 11, 2012
The Legend of Hell House (1973)
This was a suspenseful movie right up until the very end, and then it was ruined. The end just has the two survivors just walking away from the house.

The Blood Spattered Bride (1972)
I found this movie on bmovies.com. It was pretty good. The ending was great. It's based on the story Carmilla which I have yet to read.

Shadow of the Vampire (2000)
This was a great movie. John Malkovich did a fantastic job, and so did Willem Dafoe. It was a creepy movie even though there is hardly any truth to it. I really liked the way it was filmed.
Taste The Blood of Dracula (1970)
This movie was okay. I liked it, and I'm sure I'll watch it again.

Island of Lost Souls (1933)
Great movie. Originally it was banned and I can see why. The end has some pretty shocking scenes. Dr. Moreau was really creepy. This movie makes me want to read the book it was based on by H.G. Wells.
Monday, February 20, 2012
The Invisible Man (1933)
This was made by James Whale, who made Frankenstein. It was definitely not as good as Frankenstein, but it was fun to watch. The special effects are very good for it's time. My only peeve was that the voice for the invisible man was not very memorable to me, and if it had been a memorable voice actor I probably would have liked it more.

Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932)
Way different than Poe's story. Good movie though. I was surprised at the scene with the third murder victim.
Monday, February 13, 2012
Dracula AD 1972 (1972)
The guy who brings Dracula back from the grave is scarier than Dracula! Overall this movie was okay. Peter Cushing was great, and the rest of the actors were good too considering the material they were given.

Possession (1981)
This movie was freaking crazy!!! It made no sense, but I couldn't stop watching it. The acting was great and if the movie had made sense I'm sure it would have been a masterpiece. Unfortunately, it was all over the place. All I could really get out of it was that it was about a couple's divorce and how crazy the couple is, then out of nowhere this octopus thing shows up near the end. WEIRD!!!

Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972)
This movie was in some ways not as good as the first movie, but in some ways it was better. It was hilarious and the ending when Vincent is rowing a boat out of the tomb and singing "Over the Rainbow" is awesome!
The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971)
This is a great movie. It is funny, creative, and Vincent Price is once again amazing! It is beautifully made and the deaths are somewhat gory yet tasteful. I loved this movie.

Repulsion (1965)
This movie was very suspenseful and entertaining. The actress, Catherine Deneuve, was wonderful and intense. This was a great psychological thriller.
Monday, January 23, 2012
The Black Cat (1934)
This movie is supposed to be one of the greatest horror movies. I found it boring. It was great seeing Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff together and their acting was spot on, but the story was very dull until the last 5-10 minutes. I guess I had high hopes.
Sunday, January 22, 2012
Zombie aka Zombi 2 (1979)
Made by Lucio Fulci and also known as: Island of the Living Dead, Zombie Island, Zombie Flesh Eaters and Woodoo . This movie was freaking awesome!!! Mia Farrow's sister, Tisa Farrow is the main star. The first zombie in the movie kind of looks like Captain Spaulding from House of a 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects. The "special effects" are awesome, and they remind me of the effects in Evil Dead... I love this movie.
Saturday, January 21, 2012
House of Usher (1960)
Vincent Price, as always, was great. The sister, Madeline's, boyfriend got annoying after the first 5 minutes of him being on screen and yelling. Apparently this movie is the United States National Film Registry as being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." I liked the fact that Vincent Price has blonde hair in the movie.
Friday, January 20, 2012
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)
I did not laugh once at anything that Abbott and Costello did in this movie. The only parts that were in any way humorous were the reactions of Dracula and the very end when The Invisible Man speaks. The story was ludicrous and it would have been a much better movie story wise if there weren't 3 movie monsters in it all at the same time.
Deep Red (1975)
The trailer for this movie is scarier than the actual movie. The movie was alright, but it will definitely be a loooooong time before I watch it again. There are some great scenes in the film, but other than that it is kind of boring. The music in it is VERY irritating. It seems to play at all the wrong times and the moods of the music do not fit the situations. The ending is kind of disappointing.
Snake People (1971)
This movie made no sense. There is no coherent story line. All I could figure out is that it has to do with Haitian Voodoo. In the middle of the movie a random screen shot with only the word "Damballah" (who is a character in the movie) shows up for no apparent reason. All the scenes with the little person portraying a witch doctor? are really strange. I don't think I even finished this movie it was so bad.
Monday, January 16, 2012
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986)
This was a hilarious movie. It is nothing like the first film, but it is still good. Dennis Hopper is awesome in it, and the scene where he goes to the chainsaw shop is priceless.

Audition (1999)
I watched this movie last night. It was very unsettling and a little confusing, but it is a Japanese Horror film, so that should be expected. About 95% of the movie was calm and quiet, but the 5% that was gore/horror was done wonderfully. There was one part in the movie where I jumped a little, and that doesn't happen very often with me.

The Last Woman On Earth (1960)
Invasion of the Bee Girls (1973)

Horror Of Dracula (1958)
I finally got all of the movies I had ordered for Christmas. Of all the movies I ordered this was one of the ones I was most excited to see since it is a Hammer Horror Film and it stars Peter Cushing. It was a good movie. I just love Hammer Horror. The camp value, the "special effects", the sets, the actors are all so great to watch.
